Our story

Ken Connolly and Steve DiFava joined forces in 1999 to form what is now Commonwealth Waste Transportation, LLC. The two had worked along side one another since the mid 1980’s first with M. J. Connolly & Sons, Inc. and then Waste Management.

An opportunity presented itself for the duo to breakout on their own and utilize their years of experience with transfer stations operations. Ken and Steve quickly gained the reputation for being a quality sub-contractor in both transfer station daily operations and waste transportation.

As a result of their dedicated, hands on approach and reputation with industry peers, the company has experienced steady growth since its inception. Initially, with one transfer station, seven employees and three trucks in 1999 to five transfer stations, sixty employees, 40 trucks and 15 dedicated sub-contractors today.

Employees Are Key

Today, CWT employs over 60 individuals. About a quarter of the employees are involved in the daily operations of transfer stations. The remaining are Class A CDL drivers. The employees are certainly one of the key reasons for CWT’s success. They are very loyal with limited turnover.
